How successful companies attract talent
There are some organisations that are in the big league; with top talent and high market popularity. They seem to always get the right people for the right jobs and in turn, get great results. How do they manage to get the best talent whilst a lot of other organisations are finding it difficult to recruit good candidates?
Research was carried out on this topic and it uncovered a number of differences between these organisation’s recruitment strategies. The results of this research were that 36% of the organisation’s said it was getting harder to fill in job openings with good hires. 56% said that they did not experience any difference at all when hiring candidates and just 8% of these organisations said that hiring is getting easier. When compared with the survey carried out last year, 28% of organisations said that it was getting easier to hire, back in 2014. This justifies the fact that there is definitely a shortage of talent which is making a huge impact on the market.
Organisations were further analysed and those companies that found it easy to attract talent were interviewed on their strategies. One method they tend to use is training existing employees. They believe that existing employees have the capacity to improve on their skills, thereby reducing the burden of looking for new hires.
Successful organisations also tend to adopt flexible working hours. This allows employees to be more comfortable with their work environment and eliminates the stress of being late and being on time to work.
These organisations tend to utilize social recruiting as a recruiting tool and they tend to receive quality candidates. What was surprising was that these organisations rarely search for candidates on professional sites such as LinkedIn. They do however, enlist employees to promote the organisation. In addition to this, most of these organisation use pay-per-click advertising. They tend to use social media as a tool to facilitate engagement and promote the brand rather than search for employees directly online. They develop “employee personas” and use LinkedIn to find candidates that suit these personas rather than direct advertising.
In order to recruit like a successful organisation, there are certain tips that organisations can adapt to improve their recruitment strategies:
- Managers should be better at assessing candidates. They should be trained on interviews so that they know how to get the information they want in order to know if the candidate is right for the organisation.
- Invest in resources efficiently. Develop different methods of doing a certain task.
- Use social media to recruit passive candidates.
- Create employee personas. This helps target specific audiences in social media channels.
- Experiment with pay-per-click advertising. Use this method to advertise content and job ads.
