4 People management lessons from the movie Jurassic World
The movie Jurassic World undoubtedly one of the biggest hits that screened on theaters worldwide. With its newer and bigger come back after 22 years from its original movie Jurassic Park, shattered a global box office record few weeks back when it became the first movie to bring in $500 million during the opening weekend and the biggest in the history.
However we see a lot of people management lessons that could be learnt from this movie. So I decided to touch on a few of those lessons that will be helpful for you when managing people at work.
03. Appoint the right person for the right job at the right time
Owen Grady was hired by Jurassic World to train and research about behaviors of “Raptors” of the park gains a lot of experience and knowledge on genetically engineered dinos. However weeks before the Indominus rex’s paddock, which was a secret for four years was to be opened to the public, Owen was offered a job to check any security breaches.
He claims that it was a bad idea to have the genetically modified hybrid to be left alone at the paddock without any interaction with the outer world. But it was too late only when they find out “I-rex” was not inside the paddock anymore. Soon they learn it was trap by the “I-Rex” which is a highly intelligent creature.
Organisation should appoint the right person for the right job at the right time. Most of the time right resources rely within the organisations itself but in some instances you might have to recruit a person from outside to get the job done. Have you found the Owen at your work place yet? Well experienced and knowledgeable employees will never put you and your business in danger. They will help you to make better decisions and minimise any possible risks.
02. Build bonds and trust with people
Most of the managers do not build good bonds with their peers or subordinates which could result in lack of loyalty between each other. This could affect the individuals, teams and also the organisation as a whole. However in the movie Jurassic world Owen not only trains the raptors he builds up a bond between them as well.
Even though the raptors turns back on him once they do come back for him as his loyal and trusted friends to help him when he needs them to fight against I-Rex.
This goes on to prove that it does not matter whether it’s a dinosaur or any other type of a human building a bond and trust will definitely help employees of an organisation in achieving the expected goals.
03. Learn to stay calm whatever the problems you may face
Claire Dearing, The operations director stays extremely calm even after she finds out that the Indominus rex has escaped form the paddock. Considering the fact that over 20,000 guest and dinosaurs roaming in the park, it is not an easy task for her not to get panic in a situation of this kind. Her calmness allows her to assign various tasks to her team and address the problem even under pressure without causing further chaos to the situation. This is an attempt to minimise the impact that could have on the business in the future.
The lesson out of this is of course handling problems with a clear mind with less pressure helps operating efficiently. Thinking logically and reacting with sense when the organisation goes through a tough time period will let you resolve the issues and come up with a better strategy with lesser impact to your organisation and its employees.
04. Teamwork and communication is the key to success
These two points are the most important things in this movie that saves everyone at the Jurassic world. The communication between Owen and the securities, Clair and most importantly the raptors result in successful defeat of the villain creature. The trio of raptor trained by him works together to take down the large dinosaur last part of the movie. However the team work between all the characters, especially between “T-Rex” and Raptors helps defeating the dinosaur that puts thousands of life in danger.
You probably will not find “I-Rex” a genetically modified hybrid running around the office eating people. But promoting team work and effective communication will save you in any kind of situation. Usually co-workers look up to their managers and leaders for communication. The organisations needs to make sure the teams are led by the right team player who would guide everyone towards the success of the team and the organisation.
